CHINA AFTER PANDEMIC

China- One Word; One Country but thousand of emotions are attached to it.

FINALLY CHINA WELCOMED US BACK

We are just one day away from saying goodbye to 2022, and what a year it's been.

Time has flown by so quickly this year that it seems as if it was just a few months ago that I celebrated my 21st birthday.

It is a pleasure to be back at my university. Despite the long and difficult trip, a lot of quarantine, and hundreds of formalities, I finally made it back to my university.

7th December, 2022- The Golden Date, when I landed in China (Kunming City)

13th December, 2022- The Emotional Day, when I reached my City (Jinan)

20th December, 2022- End of all the strife, when I finally arrived at my University Campus

(I am writing it all here, because I am very terrible at remembering dates)

However, I am very sure I will never forget these dates, since I have dreamed of taking this trip back to my university for almost 3 years now.

Just as vividly as I remember my journey from my university to Jinan Airport in 2020, that's how clearly I remember my return to the University Campus in 2022.

The funny thing is that both times I held back my tears because it felt like I was being an emotional fool. It felt foolish back then because I thought I was about to return in a month. However, now it seems as if I should cherish this moment rather than cry.

MY UNIVERSITY; MY SECOND HOME

I remember, whenever we used to go out during the winter, the low temperatures, freezing climate and of course the dormitory rules, used to force us to return to campus as soon as possible. While my friends used to say- “Ghar Chalte Hai” (Let’s go home), I could never describe returning back to the dormitory as returning home. For them, the dormitory was synonymous with home. It took me the entire semester before I ever referred to my dormitory as my Ghar, as my home. I still cannot compare it to India, but it is definitely my comfort zone now.

And after three years, being back here, I am on Cloud 9. There was a time that our hope to return to China was so nil, that I thought I would never see my university again, and will never be able to do the things that I planned, will never be able to make the memories I dreamt of, and most of all, will never be able to experience the Medical Student Life that I always aimed for.

Now things are different, there is hope instilled, my dreams are not shattered, my life is back on track, and I intend to keep it this way.

The Pandemic was a trauma for sure, but it taught me a very valuable lesson- Life won’t be as you planned. Situations and obstacles will make it challenging, but will also give you the strength to fight, endure and succeed.
